Genesis is a diversified energy company and is the largest electricity and gas retailer in New Zealand with over 650,000 active customers.
Recognising the important role the businesses plays in accelerating our country towards a more sustainable future, they have implemented a number of environmental initiatives, including increasing energy generation from more renewable sources.
As part of these initiatives, Genesis Energy’s Digital and Sustainability teams collaborated to build EcoTracker, found within the Energy IQ digital app and Genesis website, enabling customers to have real-time information on carbon emissions from energy generation sources across New Zealand.
EcoTracker enables Genesis customers to make better informed decisions around energy consumption, advising if carbon is high or low right now and forecasting carbon emissions for the week based on a variety of data sources. Customers are able to see the impact of their energy consumption choices, and can actively plan to consume energy in a more environmentally conscious way.
This innovative solution helps makes invisible carbon emissions visible. And by encouraging a more climate conscious approach to energy usage, Genesis enables their customers to make choices that helps New Zealand take another step towards a low carbon future.
